2010 Mile High Horror Film Festival Award Winners Announced!

While the inaugural year of the Mile High Horror Film Festival boasted filmmaker Dan Myrick (The Director of The Blair Witch Project), Scarlet Salem (actress/model), and Bailey from Denver’s 93.3 as celebrity judges and showcased award-winning horror films from around the world, the true success of this past weekend had much more to do with a pass-holder’s comment that for her, film had “never been so intimate or alive as it was in the presence of those who had given it life.”  Truly, the greatest success of this festival had to do with the presence of the filmmakers who were able to answer questions and hear comments in the intimate venue at the Starz Film Center.  Somehow, art becomes a very different thing in the presence of the artist.  This is a characteristic unique to independent festivals in a world prolific with multi-million dollar budget films.

Our deepest belief is that independent film and independent art have an integral role to play in assuring a healthy community and world.  It is with this idea in mind that we selected films and organized this festival.  It is the conviction that these films matter that has us–despite an intense exhaustion–brainstorming and beginning the planning process for the year to come.

And with that said, it is with great enthusiasm that we announce the winners of this year’s festival, awards chosen by our board of celebrity judges and by the audiences who viewed the films.

Many, many congratulations to the winners of this year’s awards and to all the films that played.  We left this year’s festival with incredible pride and a conviction to make next year an even greater success.  We are forever grateful to everyone who attended and, particularly, to those who were supporting us when this was just a tiny, grain-of-sand-sized idea.  We will keep you updated as next year’s festival comes together.  In fact, updates on next year’s festival will be released in the next few weeks.  Have a Happy Halloween.
